Shimonoseki, located on the strait between Honshu and Kyushu islands, where about 700 ships pass every day, is home to a large fish market. All kinds of seafood can be purchased and eaten here, but most famous specialities are fugu blowfish and whale meat (kujira), as Shimonoseki is the capital of fugu and whale fleets.

On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the first floor of the market will turn into seafood stalls, and you can relish sashimi (raw fish) and other delicacies packed in bento for late breakfast or lunch. The market has been here since 1933, but the new building was erected in 2001 and has a ceiling of artistic design and roof covered with grass.

At reasonable price!

I was here a year ago and still remember how fresh the fish is. And the market was so clean. I mean it worth to explore with so many fresh fish we can buy and try local fish food. You can try to walk the pedestrian along way to the market at the afternoon too. Enjoying the scenery, sun and sea with our beloved family. And we can buy many gifts for family or relation there like dry seawed. And don't forget to try their fugu dishes.

The good place for fresh fish, sushi and others.
Very good fish market with good view around here. It was a little bit difficult to find eating place but you can find easily if you visit here before 12pm.
