Sarutahiko jinja4.0
Sarutahiko, the main deity worshiped in this shrhine played an important role for Isejingu shrine.
According to Japanese mythology, ‘Sarutahiko’ welcomed and guided Amaterasu (the main God enshrined in Isejingu) to Ise, and also offered his land area to Amaterasu.
Therefore faithful visitors go to greet Sarutahiko-jinja, before going to Isejingu.
The subsidiary shrine, ‘Sarume-jinja’ located in the same precinct is also attractive. This shrine enshrines Sarutahiko’s wife, Sarume-no-kimi (or also called, ‘Ama-uzume’). She is worshiped as the Goddess of dancing, entertainment, arts etc. So many actors and actress visit this shrine.
In May: Rice planting ceremony
In August: Sarume-jinja lantern festival
Many domestic and abroad worshippers offer red paper lanterns, to express their appreciation to Sarume-no-kimi.
