Takayama is often called "Small Kyoto", this is one of my favorite cities because there is a really charming old town, "Original old Japanese town" is still existing.

The town and its culture, as they exist today, took shape at the end of the 16th century, when the Kanamori clan built Takayama Castle. About a hundred years later the city came under the rule of the Tokugawa shogunate. However, the high altitude and separation from other areas of Japan kept the area fairly isolated, allowing Takayama to develop its own culture over about a 300-year period.

Takayama is the home of one of the three largest Shinto festivals in Japan. The Takayama Festival is popular because the famous Yatai (floats) are used during the festivals. The Festival was started in the 16th to 17th century, and it is held on the 14th and 15 April and also on the 9th and 10 October.

I am more than happy if I can show you the Festival, but even no festival time, this town is enough charming and existing, surely you will get unforgettable memories.
