Gifu Kawaramachi Street4.0
It is a good choice to visit Kawaramachi after climbing down from Kinkazan. The town is located along the Nagaragawa river and is in a short distance from Gifu Park where the Gifu Castle is.
This area prospered as a river port for merchants to go and come by during the regime of Nobunaga. Today, you can still see the old merchant houses with lattice doors, the traditional style red round post box, and the tall black walls that surround the back street of the village. Feel the atmosphere of the good old days.
There are restaurants, confectionery shops, and sundries stores in these buildings which have been renovated into a modern style architecture to attract tourists. The local grilled Ayu (sweet fish), Japanese sweets with a motif of an Ayu, the Gifu Uchiwa (fans) and a lot more traditional souvenirs of the area are available at these shops.
