This zoo in the south of central Osaka stretches over an area of 10 hectares, fully half of Tennoji Park. The zoo accommodates some 1,500 animals of 300 different species and raises rare creatures like wanderoos, black rhinoceros, mandrills, Japanese storks, Chinese alligators and only kiwi birds in Japan. There are growing renovation works aiming to show natural behaviors of animals, with the reptile house ”IFAR” and the hippopotamus house attracting visitors.

The views of skyscrapers - Abeno Harukas (300m) soaring in the east and Tentsukaku Tower (100m) in the west - add a unique feel to the zoo.

This zoo is well organized . I really love the huge cage where a lot of birds are kept. You can go into the cage and see birds but you are safe. Birds can never attack you. They sometimes fly in the cage and they have their nest up in the tall trees. If you are with kids, they would be happy to visit this zoo. White bears are active and penguins are lovely.
