Heiken-ji Temple, more widely known as Kawasaki Daishi, is a large Buddhist temple complex which is located in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture and is the head temple for the Chisan sect of Shingon Buddhism. It is known as a temple of Yakuyoke Daishi (Great Master for warding off evil) and is popular for hatsumode (the first visit to a place of worship in the new year) with millions of people visiting during the Japanese New Year holidays. In its precincts there are majestic buildings including Dai-Hondo (Main Hall), Fudo-do (Acala Hall), Hakkaku Gojunoto (Octagonal Five-Storied Pagoda) and Yakushi-den (Medicine Buddha Hall). In the main hall, Goma prayers are held every day to pray for the fulfillment of various wishes, such as the protection of evil, home safety, business prosperity, good luck, etc. After visiting the temple, you can enjoy shopping on the Nakamise-dori Street in front of the Dai-sanmon (Main Gate), where you can also try local snacks including Daruma-senbei (Daruma rice crackers) and Kuzu-mochi (kudzu starch cake).

素晴らしい場所だよ!very cool place+ I really like the old Japanese architecture of the buildings, and the environment! I definitely recommend this place

Lovely Buddhist temple in a charming neighborhood. Very quiet when I visited at the end of July 2020, probably due to Covid-19. There was a ceremony being held inside the temple with chanting. However, it's sadly not allowed to take pictures and record video/audio inside.

Visited for new years ritual. It was spacious. On the way to the temple are the shops along the street where you can buy candies, lucky charms like daruma, hamaya arrow, kumade plow etc...
