Makino Metasequoia Tree-Lined Street (Makino Kogen Metasequoia Namiki)3.8
About 500 Metasequoia trees are planted over a length about 2.4 km (1.5 mile)
along the prefectural road Koaraji Makinosawa Line that runs through the fruit farm Makino Pick Land toward the Makino Highland in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture. Metasequoia, or dawn redwood trees, are called "living fossils" as they had been considered to be extinct until their existence was confirmed in China in 1945. Their leaves turn into deep brownish orange in autumn and the view of the trees against the surrounding mountains are most amazing, while their fresh green leaves in spring and summer and their bare branches against snow-covered mountains in winter are also not to be missed. The street was selected as one of the "Top 100 Tree-lined Streets of Japan" in 1994.

Such a lovely place to take photos and play with snow. My 2 years old boy enjoyed his play time with Mr. Snowman.

Beautiful landscape mainly during the autumn. I recommend a slow stroll along the sidewalk for enjoying the view and take pictures. The area offers a good infrastructure with car parking, toilets, restaurants and stalls.
Although there is heavy traffic these days, I saw lots of tourists walking to the middle of the road seeking for a selfie for the their social media pages. Drivers need to be cautious and sometimes deviate from them.
