Tsumagoi Village is an highland area surrounded by mountains more than 2,000m high. This village grows a various highland vegetables and is best known for its huge production of cabbages, which are shipped all over Japan. With the annual average temperature of eight degrees in Celsius, this area offers a great summer retreat and camping grounds.

There are ski resorts around two onsen, Manza and Kasawa, which are situated at 1800m and 1500m respectively. Mount Asama (2568m) in the south is an active volcano, which erupted violently in the late 18th century and spread a vast lava expanse 5.5km long. A 2.5km trail offers a glimpse of this lava and some flower gardens around it.
