This is Japan's first department store build in the early 20th century and headquartered by the Mitsukoshi empire that dates back to 1673. The main entrance is guarded by two imposing lion statues, and a pipe organ in the central hall is played for customers three times a day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This is a top-notch department store with an air of opulence.

On the rooftop are a beer garden opened in summer and autumn, an amphitheater that shows kabuki and other performances, and a small shrine, the structure that is rarely seen in a department store.
