Atami is one of the largest onsen resorts in Japan with easy transport access by shinkansen. Its mortar-shaped terrain is landscaped with an abundance of hotels, ryokan and villas, a majestic appearance when viewed from the side of the sea. There are many restaurants to enjoy local treats and souvenir shops to poke through. This place can serve as a base point to make various short trips because of its good transport access.
Atami has fireworks show several times a year, and the beauty of lighting against the dark sea is magnificent and looks very close and imposing unlike fireworks performed in city areas. You will also enjoy regional seafood cuisines from fresh daily catches. You can have a good time throughout the year, with swimming in the beach in summer, foliage colors in autumn and onsen soaking in winter.

Atami has been one of the most popular hot-spa resorts among people living in Tokyo area. Within one hour, you can visit and enjoy real hot-spa environment. Unlike other hot-spa resorts, the most attractive point of Atami is that hotels and other accomodations such as Japanese style inns can been located around 5 km around JR Atami station. So, you don't have to change trains or buses to reach your staying hotels easily. Another feature of Atami is the magnificent view from hotels. With most of the hotels built along the steep hillside, every guest can fully observe the wonderful view of Sagami Bay and Mt. Fuji. Of course, Atami has long attracted a housands of visitors from anywhere around the world. Hotel fares vary, but I am sure that whichever you choose a reasonable traditional Japanese style inn or western style hotels, people there provide you with a variety of seafood and comfortable atmonphere there.
