Jigokudani (Hell Valley) of Noboribetsu Onsen is a valley with hot steam and volcanic gases gushing out all over like a hell. The diameter is about 450m and the area is about 11ha. There are many spouts and fumaroles along the valley, and the scenery of bubbling and boiling was the origin of the "hell where demons live". The spring water here is the main source for the downhill Noboribetsu Onsen Resort. The spectacular views can be enjoyed from a high-rise observation deck. Don't run "hell-bent" for exploration. There is a little pungent smell of sulfur and some trails around here are seasonably off-limit.
